EPISODE 4 is the fourth of Phantasy Star Online 2's six Episodes, whose story comprises the Earth Arc. Note that some scenes may be edited or cut from the Japanese version due to censorship.

Chapter 1: When I Opened My Eyes

Shortly after the events of Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, the player is awoken from a two-year stasis to investigate an outbreak of "fake ARKS" that have seemingly arrived on Oracle. The player allies with one such entity, a boy named Hitsugi, and accompanies him on a training mission. However, when the mission goes awry, the player discovers the truth behind the fake ARKS and their connection to a parallel universe where the planet Earth resides.

Chapter 2: Phantasms Made Real

Although Hitsugi attempts to keep her experience inside Phantasy Star Online 2 a secret, she comes face to face with Hagith, a member of the group known as the Mother Corps, the company running Phantasy Star Online 2 that is actually a team of Aether-sensitives who have the ability to shape Aether into monsters called Phantasms. When her encounter with the player and Hagith causes Hitsugi to awaken to her own Aether potential, she allies with ARKS to figure out what's really happening with the Mother Corps.

Chapter 3: The Voice of Revolution

Back on Earth, Hitsugi encounters another of Mother Corps' members: Bethor Zelazny, the Apostle of Earth and a crazed film director who has the ability to turn anything from a movie into a weapon. With both her life and her brother's on the line, Hitsugi must learn to fight back when push comes to shove.

Chapter 4: A Sorrowful Reunion

Hitsugi, Enga, and the player travel to Las Vegas in Nevada, USA to meet Adam, the leader of the organization known as Earth Guide, who have been fighting to protect the Earth against the machinations of Mother Corps. When an encounter with Mother Corps' Apostle of Ice ends up putting Hitsugi's life in jeopardy, a hidden truth behind Al's existence comes to light.

Chapter 5: Resolve

Enga and the player invade Mother Corps' home base on the Moon in search of Hitsugi, who was last taken by Och and Phul. However, a situation on the ARKS Ship leads to the appearance of Mother, the leader of the Mother Corps who has decided to set in motion her true plans for the Mother Corps.

Chapter 6: Feelings Take Shape

Chapter 7: A Mother's Wish

With Kohri back on their side, the heroes return to the Moon to confront Mother, whose desire for revenge against the Photoners has turned towards ARKS. Hitsugi makes one last push to redeem Mother, but the power she obtained in her quest for revenge may ultimately be her undoing.

Chapter 8: Avatar of Annihilation

Adam's true colors have been revealed. To put a stop to his plans for humanity, the heroes travel to the deepest parts of the Earth Guide sanctuary in pursuit of Adam. But with even the player powerless before the might of a god, it may take a little divine intervention of their own to save planet Earth as we know it. And when all is said and done, Phaleg decides to put the player's strength and skill to the ultimate test.
