Overview
"Photon Arts" are the "skills" and "special moves" seen in other games.
Melee types and ranged types are referred to as "Photon Arts", and are often abbreviated as PA (Photon Arts).
The magic (often used by Force, Techter, and Bouncer with a Technique weapon) is called a "Technique". See Techniques for more details.
- In the previous game "Phantasy Star Universe (PSU)", Techniques were also classified as PAs, but now are classified under a different category. (Melee type PAs were called "Skill", Ranged type PAs were called "Bullets", and Technique PAs were called "TECHNICs".)
- The term "Skill" refers to "Class Skills" in PSO2. It is best to avoid using it the same way as PSU, as it would be confusing.
- Photon Arts are categorized by weapon type, and the weapon's PAs that can be used by the class you have can be performed.
- If you are using a weapon that can be equipped with all classes, you can't use PAs if you do not have the eligible class type, but if you have a corresponding Sub-Class set, you can use PAs on the weapon.
- There are a small number of weapons that can be equipped in all classes, but there are some weapons with "Inherent PAs" that can be used on the weapon regardless of class.
- Photon Arts and Techniques are learned via consuming Discs.
Discs are obtained from container and enemy drops, receiving gifts from partner NPCs multiple times, or buying them at the Disc Shop and Player Shops. - PAs/Techniques have levels to them, and the higher the level, the higher the numerical value, such as Potency.
The level of PAs and Techniques that can be learned is set for each disc. (Resta Lv1 Disc, Resta Lv2 Disc, etc.) - The power notation of PAs and Techniques are generally based on full charge, no focus, and all hits. There are some exceptions however. If the PA is customized, that value is increased or decreased as is.
- Depending on the level of the PA/Technique, the required stat value to learn it is set on the disc, and if you do not meet the requirement, you cannot use it even if you obtain the disc.
The higher the level of the disc, the higher the requirement will be.
You can learn PAs/Techniques outside of your class if you meet the requirements. - You cannot learn lower level PAs/Techniques that you have already learned at a higher level.
In addition, it is not necessary to increase the level of PAs/Techniques in order from low to highest level. Higher level discs can be used at any point. - Can also be sold/bought from Player Shops.
