Overview
Techniques are the use of photons in the atmosphere to create "magic".
In the Phantasy Star series, a distinction is made between magic, which requires an inborn talent, and Techniques that use science and technology to recreate magic (PSO2 already has NPCs who Nare magic users, but do not partake in combat).
- To use Techniques, the Main-Class and/or Sub-Class must be either a Force, a Techter, a Bouncer, or a Summoner.
Unlike Melee and Ranged attacks, the Element Value of the weapon used does not affect the power of the Technique at all. It only affects the Force's Main Class Skill, "Element Conversion". - Almost all Techniques can by charged by holding down the button (Except for Nabarta).
You can move slowly while charging Techniques (except for Ilfoie and Type 0 Zonde). When you hear another sound effect "Ding!", that means that the charging is complete.
Charging will increase the power and expand the effect range. PP consumption will not change.
By pressing the button at the right timing, the Perfect Attack effect is also applied onto the charged Technique.
When the Technique is fully charged, you can release the button to perform the charged attack.
Charging times for Techniques are generally 1.0 seconds, with some exceptions.
Fire element Techniques can be shortened by the Force's Skill "Flame Tech Short Charge" with a 50% reduction in charge time at Lv.5. - Since non-charged Techniques are difficult to use in terms of power and range in comparison to the PP they consume, Techniques are typically charged before they are used.
However, there are some Techniques that can be used non-charged to do a certain amount of damage, as well as non-charged Techniques to perform other effects. - The potency shown for each Technique is a multiplier from the base value. If the Technique is customized, the power will increase/decrease as is.
100% of the damage from offensive Techniques is affected onto the target's Element resistance rather than the other types of attacks. - Each offensive Technique has its own function and rate of inflicting status ailments based on the element. (Fire inflict burn, ice inflicts freeze, etc.) The indicated status infliction rate is by a per charge activation, and in the case of Techniques that hit multiple times in a single activation, the infliction rate per hit will be the number of hits per charge divided by the number of hits when the charge is used.
(For example: a Lv10+ Foie will inflict burn at a 20% rate per hit; for a Lv10+ Gifoie, the stated value is the same 20%, but since 3 hits are performed, the infliction rate per hit is about 6.67%, and the actual infliction rate is about 18.7% if all three hits connect.)
